(E-SKRIPSI) THE ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ LISTENING STRATEGIES INFLUNCE THEIR LISTENING ABILITY AT SMA PGRI KATIBUNG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2016-2017
Listening is one of the important skills in English Subject. However, there are
some problems that are faced by the students in studying listening. Therefore
the students have their own way in overcoming their difficulty in learning
listening. According to Buck (2001, p. 104) divided the listening strategy into
two parts; cognitive and metacognitve. There are two instruments in
conducting this research; questionnaire and interview that was collected from
students of SMA PGRI Katibung. The result of the research from the
questionnaire result, the cognitive strategy showed that the students have the
tendency in questions number 7, 9; the students tend to ask to their friends if
they did not understand about the listening material and they tried out to find
out the information from the internet. Meanwhile, the result of metacognitive
strategy of the students in listening strategy can be seen in question number
7,8,10. It showed that the students would try to listen to the recording
repeatedly to understand the speaker, they also have a good understanding
about the material if their teacher invited them to have more exercises, the
students will also find the meaning of the word in the dictionary. The interview
result also can be concluded that the listening strategies of the students
would be trained well by listening to the English song and watching EEnglish
movie with Indonesian sub title and listen to the speaker as good as possible
what word she could not understand. One of the best listening strategy of the
students is also listening to the recording repeatedly
