(E-SKRIPSI) THE STUDY OF COLLOQUIAL WORDS OF THE SCRIPT OF “22 JUMP STREET” MOVIE
The focus of this study is the analysis of colloquial expressions in the script
movie entitled 22 jump street. The objectives of this study are to find out the
types of colloquial expression, to find out the most dominant type found in the
script, and to know the possible benefits in using colloquial expressions in the
classroom. This study used a qualitative method and was designed as a
single-embedded case study. The research findings show that: (1) there are
four types of colloquial expressions found in the script movie. They are 143
data of single word, 18 data ofclipped words, 786 data of contraction, and 26
data of verb-adverb combination. (2) the most dominant type of colloquial
found in the script is contraction. The percentage show that 39% belongs to
contractions, 7,5% of single word, 1,3% of verb-adverb combinations, and
0,9% of clipped words. (3) the possible benefits in using colloquial
expressions in the classroom. Colloquial become important for English
language learners to know. It is supported by the fact that there are some
benefits in using colloquial expression in the classroom. It proved in the
previous research and lecturers’ opinion that by using informal language in
the teaching learning process students and teachers will receive advantages
related to the improvement of communicative skill. It is clear that the use of
informal language helped students learn new vocabulary, improve their
communicative skill based on the use of informal language in their spoken or
written English. Although teaching colloquial in the classroom is not a
standard practice. This research can be used as an input for lecturers to give
the understanding about colloquial expression to the students. Hopefully,
there will be further research of colloquial expression.
