(E-SKRIPSI) AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS AT TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA PGRI KATIBUNG IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2017-2018
In writing a descriptive text, the students often found some difficulties
although they have been guided by their teachers to write it. There are
some problems related to student‟s ability in writing. The students got
difficulties to organize the generic structure of descriptive text. They are
still confused about the generic structures of descriptive text and how to
start writing descriptive text. This research investigated the students‟ ability
in writing descriptive text at text at tenth grade students of SMA PGRI
Katibung. The writer describes the result of the students‟ ability in writing
descriptive text based on the result of the students test, the content and
organization of descriptive text, the students‟ vocabulary, grammar, and
mechanism in writing descriptive. The method of this research is a
qualitative. The data were collected by doing the observation, and writing
test. In this study, an observation checklist was used to observe the
subject of the study in some aspects. The aspects that were observed
were students‟ attendance, students‟ assignment, students‟ performance,
students‟ attention and attitude during the class. In analyzing the data
related to the students‟ test of writing ability, the writer uses analytical
scoring rubric adapted from Weigle (2002: 116). There are five
components presented in the analytical scoring rubric for writing, such as
content, organization, vocabulary, language use, and mechanics. Based
on the findings, most of the students were low in content and language
use. Therefore, the teacher needs to have more effort to help the students
in improving their grammar skill.
