(E-SKRIPSI) THE INFLUENCE OF USING JAKARTA POST NEWS ITEM TEXTS TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ READING ACHIEVEMENT OF GRADE TEN OF SMA PGRI PAGELARAN
Reading is one of the important skills in learning English, Reading skills
have important components such as : determining main idea, determining
supporting details, determining references, determining inferences, and
understanding vocabulary.
The data were collected by giving two pre-tests and two post-tests to
experimental group and control group. Treatment using Jakarta Post
report text was administered to experimental group, while control group
received technique which was usually used by the teacher. Data analysis
was attempted by using t-Test for two group design.
The result indicated that p-value 1% = 2, 65, 5% = 2, 00, and t-value =
3.04. It means that p-value is smaller than t-value. Therefore, hypothesis
testing showed that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative
hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.
From the result, the using of Jakarta Post article in determining the item
test of reading could significantly improve students’ reading achievement
in SMA PGRI Pagelaran.
