(E-SKRIPSI) THE INFLUENCE OF USING PUZZLE TO IMPROVE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY ACHIEVEMENT OF GRADE TEN OF SMA PGRI PAGELARAN

Vocabulary takes an important role in the context of learning new
language. It is needed to form and understand sentence. Many people
realize that their limitation in vocabulary has made them difficult in
expressing their idea. Therefore, it is very important to know the words or
vocabulary of English when we are going to learn about English. The
objective of the research was to find whether Word Search Puzzle Method
can significantly improve students’ achievement in learning vocabulary
especially for the ten grade students or not. Experimental method was
used to conduct this research. The population of the research was the first
grade students of SMA PGRI Pagelaran. The experimental group was Y
and the control group was X.

The result of the data analysis showed that the implementation of Word
Search Puzzle Method could be used to increase students’ achievement in
vocabulary mastery.
The data were collected by giving two pre-tests and two post-tests to
experimental group and control group. Treatment using Word Search
Puzzle was administered to experimental group, while control group
received technique which was usually used by the teacher. Data analysis
was attempted by using t-Test for two group design.
The result indicated that p-value 1% = 2, 65, 5% = 2, 00, and t-value =
4,31. It means that p-value is smaller than t-value. Therefore, hypothesis
testing showed that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative
hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that the result of teaching and
learning process before and after using the Words Search Puzzle Method
is not identical, or it can be said that the using of Word Search Puzzle
Method in teaching and learning process is effective enough to increase
students’ vocabulary achievement. Although this method can increase
students’ vocabulary achievement, it still needs to be revised. The next
researcher can develop the picture in media not only about noun, but also
verb, adjective, and etc.
